Messy house, dirty diapers, temper-tantrums, broken dishes, sleepless nights, stresses of work, deadlines, stains on the carpet, burnt dinner, the list goes on … there are many things every day that could make us just want to cry… or maybe even throw a fit! My mom has this catchy phrase: “if you don’t laugh … you’ll cry”! It is a phrase that I have adopted because is fitting for many different situations in life, especially as parents.
When “stuff” happens we have two options: to “laugh” or to “cry”. Proverbs 17:22 says that a joyful heart is like good medicine. And the Proverbs 31 lady “laughs at the days to come” (Proverbs 31:25). When we choose to not take life too seriously and to trust that God works it all out, then we can laugh at today and all the days to come!
Take a moment to think about the things that are stressing you out today. Now just smile or laugh about it in faith. God’s job is to work it all out, and to give us the strength … our job is to trust Him and to “laugh” in faith at all the things that could make us want to cry!
SPEAK it!: ha! ha! ha! I choose today to stir up the joy with in and to laugh at situations that try to bring me down. I choose today to have a joyful heart, be thankful, and be light on my feet. God has it all figured out and He has blessed my life so incredibly … I choose joy! I choose laughter!
